Henry Cavill injury delays ‘Highlander’ remake filming

Actor Henry Cavill has been injured while preparing for the remake of Highlander, causing production delays until early 2026, according to Variety. The film, directed by Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame, was originally set to begin filming soon under Amazon MGM Studios.

Cavill leads a star-studded cast that includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang. Djimon Hounsou recently joined the project as an immortal warrior from Africa, while Bautista plays the villain Kurgan. Gillan is cast as MacLeod’s wife, and Abela as his modern-day love interest.

The remake is based on the 1986 cult classic starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, which followed immortal warriors across centuries. While the original flopped in theaters, it became a fan favorite through home video, inspiring sequels, a TV series, and novels.

The new version has been in development since 2009 and has seen many delays. Stahelski joined in 2016, and Cavill signed on in 2021 to play the lead role of MacLeod.

Despite the injury setback, Cavill remains busy with completed projects like Enola Holmes 3, Voltron, and In the Grey. Fans will now have to wait a bit longer for this action-fantasy reboot.
