East City Corporation Commissioner Ramesh D.S directs swift measures in KR Puram

Flood Relief Inspection

Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner Ramesh D.S on Thursday visited the flood-affected neighborhoods of Sai Layout and Pai Layout in KR Puram, where residents have been facing severe hardship due to waterlogging caused by recent rains. The on-ground inspection was aimed at reviewing the situation closely and ensuring that immediate relief measures are put in place to restore normalcy in the area.

During the visit, Commissioner Ramesh interacted with local officials and directed them to intensify relief efforts without delay. He stressed that stormwater drain clearance should be taken up on priority, as clogged and encroached drains have been a recurring cause of flooding in several layouts. By strengthening drain networks and ensuring regular maintenance, the Commissioner said, the civic body could significantly reduce the impact of heavy rains on vulnerable residential zones.

The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of preventive planning. He instructed officials to maintain strict vigilance throughout the monsoon season and respond swiftly to public grievances. Teams from the engineering and stormwater management departments were asked to work in coordination so that solutions could be implemented effectively.

Accompanying officials assured residents that additional teams have already been deployed to clear blocked drains and provide assistance in inundated streets. They reiterated that long-term measures, including the upgrading of drain infrastructure, would be undertaken to avoid a repeat of such situations in the future.

The inspection underlined the civic body’s commitment to proactive disaster management and its focus on protecting the lives and property of citizens in flood-prone parts of the city.
