Six Dead, 11 Injured in Shooting at Jerusalem Bus Stop

Gunmen opened fire at a Jerusalem bus stop, killing five and injuring 11 before being shot dead by security forces.

Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop on the outskirts of Jerusalem on Monday, killing six people and injuring 11 others, in what Israeli authorities described as a “terrorist attack,” marking one of the deadliest incidents in the city in recent years. Footage from the scene showed people fleeing as shots rang out, while a bus’s windscreen and windows were riddled with bullet holes.

Among the victims were a 50-year-old man, a woman in her fifties, and three men in their thirties. Six of the injured remain in serious condition. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar confirmed the sixth death, stating the attackers were Palestinians from the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Palestinian militant groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad praised the assailants but stopped short of claiming responsibility.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces were pursuing any accomplices involved. According to police, the attackers arrived by car at Ramot Junction and opened fire before being neutralised, with weapons, ammunition, and a knife recovered at the scene. Emergency services reported several victims lying on the road and sidewalk, some unconscious.

The Israeli military deployed soldiers to assist police and conducted operations in Ramallah in the West Bank to prevent further attacks. The incident echoes previous attacks, including a November 2023 shooting at a Jerusalem bus stop that killed three people and a 2024 Tel Aviv attack that left seven dead, both linked to Palestinian militant groups. Authorities continue to investigate the latest attack amid heightened security measures in the region.
