Karnataka’s Shakti Yojana breaks record

Karnataka’s Shakti Yojana, a flagship women empowerment initiative by the state Congress government, has achieved a significant milestone by facilitating over 500 crore women trips, setting a new world record. Transport and Excise Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that the scheme has been officially recognized in the Golden Book of World Records and presented the certificate and medal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The CM expressed his delight over the recognition and congratulated Minister Reddy, along with the officers and staff of the transport department, for their role in making the scheme a success. He highlighted that the ambitious Shakti Yojana has empowered women socially, educationally, economically, and professionally, providing safe, affordable, and reliable transport options across Karnataka.

Shakti Yojana, implemented statewide, aims to offer women access to affordable public transport, particularly for students, professionals, and daily commuters. Since its launch, the scheme has transformed urban and rural mobility, ensuring women can travel independently and safely, while also contributing to gender equity and social inclusion.

The recognition was celebrated in the presence of Energy Minister K.J. George, Pancha Guarantee Scheme State President H.M. Revanna, Vice President Dinesh Gooligowda, and KSRTC Managing Director Akram Pasha. Officials emphasized that such initiatives not only improve accessibility but also strengthen women’s participation in economic and social activities. The Shakti Yojana’s record-breaking achievement underscores Karnataka’s commitment to gender-sensitive policies and sustainable public transport solutions.
