Kristu Jayanti welcomes first Vice Chancellor

Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) has appointed its first Vice Chancellor, marking a historic milestone in the institution’s 26-year journey of academic excellence. Rev. Fr. Dr. Abraham Vettiyankal, Chancellor of the University and Provincial of St. Joseph Province, Kottayam, officially appointed Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine George CMI as Vice Chancellor. Dr. George is a member of the same CMI Congregation and has had a long-standing association with the institution.

Bringing extensive academic and research experience, Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine George has served Kristu Jayanti College in multiple key roles, including Head of Department, Dean, Director of the Law College, Vice Principal, and Principal. Under his leadership, the college achieved several notable milestones, including an A++ grade with a CGPA of 3.78 in the third cycle of NAAC accreditation and ranking 34th in the NIRF 2025 rankings. He has also played a pivotal role in implementing the National Education Policy 2020, advancing technology integration, research initiatives, international collaborations, and promoting the Indian Knowledge System, elevating the institution’s academic standards.

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, conferred deemed university status to Kristu Jayanti through notification letter No. 9-13/2025-U.3(A) under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Since its inception in 1999 with just nine students as an affiliated college under Bangalore North University, the institution has grown to accommodate 16,000 students. It achieved autonomous status in 2013 before this latest elevation to deemed university status, further solidifying its position as a leading center of learning and innovation in the country.
