Haryana CM confirms 12 deaths in floods

Chandigarh

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday said 12 people lost their lives after heavy rains caused house collapses across the state. Three deaths each were reported in Fatehabad and Bhiwani, two each in Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar, and one each in Hisar and Faridabad.

The Chief Minister assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation and taking relief measures. An e-compensation portal has been launched to ease the claims process for affected citizens. So far, over 1.69 lakh farmers from 2,897 villages have registered nearly 10 lakh acres of land for compensation.

Saini said Rs 3.06 crore has been sanctioned as reserve funds for districts. Families of the deceased will receive ex gratia payments amounting to Rs 48 lakh. For farmers, compensation of up to Rs 15,000 per acre will be provided for damaged crops in waterlogged areas. Relief camps will also be set up for displaced families.

Efforts are being made to ensure fodder supply for livestock, including transporting dry fodder from unaffected districts. A survey will be conducted to assess collapsed or damaged houses, with compensation promised to affected households.

Medical relief has also been prioritised. So far, 135 camps have been set up with doctors deployed to assist flood-affected residents.

The Haryana government has extended solidarity by contributing Rs 5 crore each to Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, ruling party MLAs have donated one month’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while officials have been urged to voluntarily contribute.
