Cong Govt Responsible for Maddur Incident, Alleges Kumaraswamy

Accuses government of acting in ways that hurt Hindu sentiments; warns against forces trying to inflame Mandya district

New Delhi

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday blamed the Congress government’s “bad governance and conduct” for the stone-pelting incident on a Ganesh procession in Maddur, Mandya district.

Speaking to the media after discussing the matter with the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Kumaraswamy said, “The Congress government is entirely responsible for such large-scale disturbing incidents in Mandya.”

He alleged that forces were attempting to set Mandya—known for peace and harmony—on fire. “Such events have never happened in this district. In Nagamangala earlier, and now in Maddur, the same forces are trying to destroy people’s peace,” he said.

Calling Mandya “a garden of peace envisioned by Kuvempu,” Kumaraswamy expressed concern that the Congress’s appeasement politics had led to unrest across the state. “Congress is behaving in a way that creates dissatisfaction among Hindus. This is not a political remark—disturbances everywhere are proof of their governance failure,” he charged.

He said he had directed district authorities to take strict action against miscreants. “If Congress does not realize this, it will amount to political suicide. Law and order must be restored, and public property must not be harmed,” he warned.
