Opposition Accused of Ignoring National Security Threats in Protest
NEW DELHI
BJP MP Sambit Patra on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the opposition, branding its protests against the Special Identification of Residents (SIR) drive as a “ghuspatiya bachao andolan” (movement to protect infiltrators). He alleged that the opposition, particularly the Congress and the Gandhi family, was attempting to shield illegal migrants under the guise of political campaigns.
Patra targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing voter adhikar yatra in Bihar, calling it an effort to safeguard infiltrators. “Rahul Gandhi’s yatra is nothing but a ghuspatiya bachao andolan. The Prime Minister has made it clear that India must be protected from infiltrators, and the BJP fully supports this stance,” Patra said.
The BJP leader also cited controversial remarks by opposition figures. He accused Jharkhand minister Irfan Ansari of threatening BJP leaders who raise concerns about illegal migration, alleging Ansari had warned of “digging graves” for those speaking against infiltrators. Patra further pointed to statements by Trinamool Congress leader and Malda district president Abdur Rahim Bakshi, who, according to him, threatened a BJP MLA with an acid attack for using the term “infiltrator.”
“With great sensitivity, I appeal to the Kolkata High Court to take suo motu cognisance of Bakshi’s remarks. Such threats cannot be ignored,” Patra said. He asserted that infiltration posed a serious national security threat, accusing the opposition of ignoring the issue for political gains. The BJP, he added, would continue to raise the matter at every level to safeguard the nation’s interests.
