Awareness Drive Highlights Importance of Wearing ISI-Marked Helmets

Bengaluru traffic police have launched an awareness drive urging riders to use ISI-marked full-face helmets and follow traffic regulations strictly

Traffic police conducted an awareness programme in the city on Sunday to stress the importance of wearing helmets and following road safety rules. Officials reminded the public that helmets are not just a legal requirement but also a crucial safeguard for life. During the campaign, commuters were urged to use only ISI-marked full-face helmets, which provide better protection in the event of accidents. Officers pointed out that substandard or half-coverage helmets often fail to prevent serious head injuries, defeating the very purpose of wearing one. Helmets should not be seen as a burden or a rule forced upon riders. They are lifesavers. A good-quality, ISI-certified helmet can mean the difference between life and death in case of an accident, said a senior traffic police officer addressing the crowd. Alongside helmet awareness, officials also reminded motorists of the need to strictly follow traffic rules, such as wearing seatbelts, respecting signals, avoiding rash driving, and not using mobile phones while riding or driving. Leaflets with safety messages were distributed, and interactive sessions were held with riders at busy junctions. Authorities added that while enforcement through fines continues, awareness is equally important to build a culture of responsibility among road users. Citizens responded positively, with many acknowledging the need for better compliance. The drive concluded with a call for Bengaluru’s riders to become role models in road safety by wearing helmets without fail and encouraging others to do the same.
