The U.S. Open 2025 witnessed a historic day for Indian tennis and a powerful comeback story in women’s singles. Yuki Bhambri reached his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal in men’s doubles, while Naomi Osaka booked her spot in the women’s singles semifinals.

Bhambri, 33, partnered with New Zealand’s Michael Venus to defeat the 11th-seeded pair of Nikola Mektic and Rajeev Ram in a thrilling quarterfinal. The Indo-Kiwi duo won 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3, displaying grit and composure on Court 17. After years of battling injuries and switching from singles to doubles, Bhambri finally achieved his career’s deepest Grand Slam run. Their victory followed another upset against fourth seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in the previous round. Next, they face Britain’s Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski for a place in the final. Bhambri’s achievement adds to India’s strong doubles legacy, built by Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Rohan Bopanna.

In women’s singles, Naomi Osaka continued her inspiring comeback after maternity leave with a 6-4, 7-6(3) win over Karolina Muchova. The four-time Grand Slam champion showed both power and resilience, maintaining her perfect 5-0 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals. Muchova, struggling with a leg injury, pushed Osaka hard, even leading 5-4 in the second set. But Osaka fought back with strong shot-making to seal the match in a tiebreak. She now prepares for a semifinal clash with Amanda Anisimova.

With Bhambri breaking new ground and Osaka chasing a fifth major, the U.S. Open 2025 has become a stage of breakthroughs and inspiring returns.
