Bengaluru to host job fair for seniors

CH NEWS

A unique employment opportunity awaits elderly citizens in Bengaluru as the Nightingale Empowerment Foundation, in collaboration with Nightingales Medical Trust, St Joseph’s University, and the Archdiocese of Bengaluru, will organize a free job fair exclusively for senior citizens on September 7, 2025, at St Joseph’s University.

The Initiative comes at a time when financial insecurity is a growing concern among India’s elderly population. Of the nearly 15 crore senior citizens in the country, around 75% struggle financially. While many elders between the ages of 60 and 70 remain physically fit and possess valuable skills, the lack of job opportunities often leaves them without income support. This financial vulnerability has also contributed to increasing cases of neglect and abuse, reflected in the surge of financial complaints by seniors—from 10% in 2023–24 to more than 22% in 2024–25. Despite India’s life expectancy doubling since independence, retirement age has largely remained unchanged. With only 11% of seniors receiving government pensions, the majority are left to manage without a steady income.

Since launching this initiative, Nightingales has organized nine job fairs, enabling over 8,500 senior citizens to register, attracting 450 employers, and securing employment for nearly 2,925 elders. The upcoming Bengaluru event marks the 10th edition, with 656 senior citizens already registered and numbers expected to rise in the coming days. Both seniors (aged 60–70) and potential employers can register for free by contacting 080-4242 6565. Organizers hope the event will provide dignity, stability, and financial independence to many elders.
