‘Avatar 2’ returns to theatres in India

James Cameron’s Oscar-winning film Avatar: The Way of Water is set to re-release in Indian theatres on October 2, 2025, 20th Century Studios announced. The film will be screened for one week only, giving fans a chance to relive the magic of Pandora on the big screen.

Originally released in December 2022, the film became India’s highest-grossing Hollywood movie and earned global praise for its stunning underwater visuals and emotional story. It also won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

Starring Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, the film follows their family’s journey as they join the Metkayina clan to protect their home. Other cast members include Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and Stephen Lang.

The re-release comes ahead of the much-awaited third film in the series, Avatar: Fire and Ash, which hits cinemas on December 19, 2025. A trailer released in July revealed the debut of a new group called the Ash People, led by a new character named Varang.

Director James Cameron has confirmed plans for five Avatar films, with parts four and five expected in 2029 and 2031. Until then, fans can enjoy The Way of Water one more time.
