Bengaluru witnessed severe traffic disruptions on Wednesday after heavy rains led to waterlogging in several parts of the city, slowing down vehicular movement and causing significant delays for commuters during peak hours.
According to traffic police reports, the stretch from Bilekahalli towards the HSBC junction experienced heavy congestion, with vehicles crawling for several kilometers. The waterlogging at key points along the route reduced the available carriageway, forcing motorists to navigate carefully and adding to the traffic build-up.
Similarly, the route from PES IT College in Electronic City towards Huskur saw prolonged traffic snarls. Students and employees commuting to IT offices in the area faced considerable delays, with some reporting that their travel time had nearly doubled. Traffic police and BBMP personnel were deployed to the affected zones to manage vehicle movement and assist with clearing the excess water.
At Hulimavu Gate, traffic towards both Bannerghatta and the city center remained slow-moving for several hours. Commuters reported frustration as they were stuck in long queues during the evening rush. The situation was worsened by inadequate drainage systems, which failed to cope with the intensity of the downpour.
City officials stated that dewatering pumps were pressed into service at key junctions to ease the situation, but clearing the water took longer than expected. The BBMP has assured residents that stormwater drain maintenance and road levelling will be prioritized to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
