Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday emphasised India’s rising prominence in the semiconductor sector, referencing Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s recent write-up on the country’s transformative journey in this field. Modi highlighted Vaishnaw’s view that as semiconductor units in India mature and scale over the next decade, the nation is well-positioned to become a competitive hub for the entire semiconductor value chain.
Vaishnaw noted that India’s semiconductor ecosystem is evolving rapidly, supported by government initiatives and strategic investments. The ongoing three-day Semicon India Summit 2025 has brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to discuss opportunities, emerging technologies, and growth strategies in the sector. The summit underscores India’s aim to strengthen its semiconductor ecosystem and establish itself as a major player in the global market.
The government’s Semicon India programme offers incentives and support for companies setting up fabrication and advanced packaging facilities, reflecting a broader push to attract investment, foster innovation, and build domestic manufacturing capabilities. With the global semiconductor market projected to reach USD 1 trillion in the coming years, India is strategically positioned to capitalise on this growth. Vaishnaw’s insights highlight the government’s commitment to nurturing the sector, promoting collaboration, and driving India’s emergence as a global semiconductor hub.
