IOC resumes Olympic Solidarity partnership with IOA

IOC reinstates full support for India, paving the way for enhanced athlete development

New Delhi
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) welcomed the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to fully reinstate its partnership through the Olympic Solidarity Programmes, marking a significant milestone for Indian sport.

In a letter addressed to IOA President P.T. Usha, the IOC praised the recent governance reforms and collaborative efforts by the IOA and the Government of India to strengthen the country’s sporting ecosystem. Among the key changes highlighted were the formal appointment of Raghuram Iyer as IOA’s Chief Executive Officer and the adoption of the National Sports Governance Act seen as pivotal steps toward greater transparency and professionalism in Indian sport.

With the reinstatement of the programmes, Indian athletes are expected to be the primary beneficiaries, gaining increased access to direct funding, advanced training resources, and preparation support for the Olympic Games and other global competitions.

Calling the development a landmark moment, IOA chief P.T. Usha said, This reflects our shared commitment, under the transformative sports legislation, to uphold the highest standards of governance in sport. Together, we are shaping a strong and promising future for India’s athletes.

The IOC had earlier suspended financial support to the IOA due to internal disputes and election delays. With the issues now resolved, the renewed partnership is expected to play a vital role in helping Indian athletes achieve their Olympic aspirations while fostering growth across all levels of sport in the country.
