Sinner cruises past Bublik into US Open quarters

Sinner, with 25 straight hard-court Grand Slam wins, solidifies his place among tennis’s elite players

Jannik Sinner showed his dominance once again at the US Open 2025, crushing Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals. The Italian, who is the defending champion and top seed, needed only one hour and 21 minutes to complete the match, making it the tournament’s second-shortest contest so far.

Sinner lost to Bublik earlier this year on grass in Halle, Germany, but Monday’s hard-court battle was completely different. With sharp groundstrokes and strong serving, the 23-year-old Italian broke Bublik’s serve eight times, ending his streak of 55 straight service games won.

After the match, Bublik smiled and told Sinner, “I’m not bad,” but on this night, he simply could not match the champion’s level. The No. 23 seed had entered the match in hot form, with 11 consecutive victories and three titles in 2025, but Sinner’s power and consistency proved too much.

Sinner, who has now won 25 straight Grand Slam matches on hard courts, continues to underline his status as one of the sport’s best. His run includes back-to-back Australian Open titles and last year’s US Open triumph. He now prepares to face fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No. 10 seed, in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Reflecting on his performance, Sinner said breaking Bublik’s serve early gave him confidence. “I tried to move him around, to test his energy after his long match on Saturday. At times he gave me free points, but I felt I played very good tennis,” he said.
