ICC unveils record prize money for women’s cricket

New Delhi

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a historic prize pool for the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, to be held in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2. The prize money has been raised to 13.88 million USD (about ₹122 crore), a 297 percent increase from the 3.5 million USD (₹30 crore) awarded in the 2022 edition in New Zealand.

The champions of the 2025 tournament will secure 4.48 million USD (around ₹39 crore), more than double the 1.32 million USD Australia received in 2022. The runners-up will receive 2.24 million USD (₹19 crore), while the two losing semi-finalists will take home 1.12 million USD (₹9 crore) each.

Each participating team is guaranteed 250,000 USD (₹2 crore). Teams finishing fifth and sixth will earn 700,000 USD each (₹6 crore), while seventh and eighth will get 280,000 USD each (₹2.47 crore). In addition, every group-stage win will fetch 34,314 USD (₹30 lakh).

ICC Chairman Jay Shah called the announcement a “defining milestone” in women’s cricket. He said the four-fold rise in prize money shows ICC’s commitment to ensuring women cricketers are treated on par with men. “This step will inspire the next generation of players and fans while giving the women’s game the respect it deserves,” Shah added.

The ICC has been working to accelerate the growth of women’s cricket, having already introduced pay parity during the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.
