Organ transplants

Agartala

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday announced that three kidney transplants have already been successfully carried out in the state and that efforts are underway to enable other organ transplants. Speaking at Pragya Bhavan after distributing appointment letters to 45 Specialist Medical Officers, he said the BJP government, since 2018, has significantly improved both health infrastructure and manpower in Tripura.

Saha, a dental surgeon himself, said the kidney transplants were a milestone achievement as such procedures were once unimaginable in the state. He added that both donors and recipients are in good health. To further strengthen the initiative, the state government has partnered with MOHAN (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network) Foundation, which has collaborated with Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital to set up organ transplant services.

Highlighting the need for public awareness, the Chief Minister stressed that kidney, liver, and other organ donations can save countless lives. He also pointed out that Tripura currently has three medical colleges offering 400 MBBS seats, with efforts underway to increase capacity and introduce specialised courses.

Urging doctors to work with compassion, Saha emphasised the importance of skill development among medical professionals for better healthcare delivery. Later, he inaugurated two voluntary blood donation camps organised alongside Ganesh Puja celebrations. Praising the youth for their participation, he said such humanitarian acts not only save lives but also promote unity, responsibility, and social harmony.
