SM Pandit Theatre has been fully renovated and is set for inauguration, promising a modern hub for arts and culture

Kalaburagi
The historic SM Pandit Theatre, located in the heart of Kalaburagi, has been fully renovated and is ready for its inauguration. Known as a hub for literature enthusiasts and music lovers, the theatre now serves as a major platform for art, literature, music, and cultural programs.

Built in 2009, the theatre required significant repairs over time. District in-charge Minister Priyank Kharge, who envisioned a well-equipped cultural space, took a personal interest and laid the foundation for the renovation in January 2025. Within six months, the theatre has been transformed.

A grant of Rs 4.80 crore from the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board’s Macro Plan 2024-25 funded the renovation, carried out by Nirmiti Kendra. The theatre now features 855 new pushback seats, including 552 on the ground floor and 303 on the first floor, each equipped with a water bottle holder.

The interiors and exteriors have been refreshed with vibrant colors, and the stage is adorned with decorative lighting and elegant curtains.

“SM Pandit Theatre has a rich cultural legacy and will now stand as a proud centre for the city’s citizens,” said Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Tarannum. Minister Priyank Kharge added, “Renovating this theatre to meet modern needs and delight literary enthusiasts has been my dream. The inauguration will take place soon.”
