BJP leader demands safety for girl students

Chennai

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday condemned the state government for failing to ensure the safety of girl students in government schools, following disturbing allegations at a Coimbatore school.

Students of Kinathukadavu Government Higher Secondary School released a video claiming that some teachers came to school under the influence of alcohol and misbehaved with girls, including acts of sexual harassment. They alleged that complaints were ignored and that they were threatened with reduced marks if they spoke out.

Nagenthran called the incident “shocking and unacceptable,” saying it revealed a collapse of responsibility under the current Dravidian model of governance. “It is unacceptable that those entrusted with teaching and protecting children are accused of such misconduct,” he said, adding that rising cases of harassment were eroding confidence in government schools.

He warned that poor and underprivileged children, who mainly rely on government schools, were at greater risk. Nagenthran also questioned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, urging him to act immediately and ensure the safety of girl students. “The Chief Minister must conduct a thorough investigation and deliver justice to the students,” he said.

The BJP leader called for the school education department to implement stronger safeguards to protect girls, emphasizing that their safety must be a top priority. He said the government should ensure that students could report complaints fearlessly and that incidents like those in Kinathukadavu do not recur.

The statement comes amid growing public concern over safety and accountability in government schools, highlighting the urgent need for reforms to protect children from abuse.
