Titagarh Rail Wins ₹467 Crore Order for Research Vessels

Chennai

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) announced that its Shipbuilding and Maritime Systems division has won a ₹467.25 crore contract from Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for building two Coastal Research Vessels (CRVs) on behalf of the Geological Survey of India. This marks the company’s largest single order in the maritime segment.

The upcoming vessels are designed to strengthen India’s ocean research capabilities by supporting seabed mapping, mineral exploration, and marine environmental studies. Equipped with three advanced laboratories and 22 types of scientific instruments, the CRVs will facilitate real-time data analysis and offshore experiments. They will operate within India’s Exclusive Economic Zone at depths ranging from 5 to 1,000 metres, offering modern facilities for both scientific research and crew accommodation.

TRSL has already delivered more than 35 vessels, including ships for the National Institute of Ocean Technology. The company views this contract as a significant milestone that reinforces its expertise in delivering complex maritime assets.

Vice Chairman and MD Umesh Chowdhary highlighted that the order reflects TRSL’s strong collaboration with GRSE, citing past projects such as ICGS Kamla Devi and the RoPax vessel MV Ma Lisha for Guyana.

Shares of Titagarh Rail Systems have gained 11% over the past month, though they remain down 22% in 2025.
