Rajinikanth’s latest film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is heading steadily toward the ₹450 crore milestone at the global box office. After just eight days in theatres, the film has collected an estimated ₹444 crore worldwide.
The action drama opened strong, earning over ₹350 crore in its first four days. Although collections dipped by 65% on Monday, especially in India, the film has still managed to rake in ₹273 crore gross domestically, with ₹230 crore net. Overseas, Coolie has earned close to $21 million (₹171 crore), breaking multiple Tamil film records.
With this, Coolie has now overtaken Jr NTR’s Devara Part 1, which grossed a total of ₹430 crore globally. Next in its sights is Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), which earned ₹457 crore worldwide. Coolie is currently the sixth-highest-grossing Tamil film ever.
Rajinikanth plays Deva, a retired coolie drawn into a crime investigation following his friend’s mysterious death. The film also stars Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Soubin Shahir, with Aamir Khan making a cameo in his Tamil debut.
All eyes are now on how far Coolie can climb in the all-time box office charts.
