The Karnataka Legislative Council on Friday approved the Basavana Bagewadi Development Authority Bill, 2025, which had earlier been passed in the Assembly. The bill was presented in the Council by Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.

During the previous session of the legislature, Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti had strongly urged that local Legislative Council members should also be given representation in the proposed Development Authority. Responding positively to this demand, Minister Byre Gowda had assured the House that necessary amendments would be introduced to ensure inclusivity in the authority’s composition.

Fulfilling that assurance, Minister Byre Gowda introduced an amendment today, making provision for Council members to be part of the Basavana Bagewadi Development Authority. The amendment was placed before the Council and received unanimous approval.

The passage of this bill marks an important step towards accelerating development initiatives in Basavana Bagewadi, a region with historical and cultural significance. The inclusion of local representatives in the authority is expected to ensure better planning, accountability, and participation in decision-making, addressing long-pending demands for balanced regional development.

With the approval in both Houses of the state legislature, the bill is now set to become law, paving the way for the establishment of the Basavana Bagewadi Development Authority, which will oversee and implement infrastructure, civic, and developmental projects in the region.
