Hockey India has named a 20-member squad for the Women’s Asia Cup 2025, to be played from September 5 to 14 in Hangzhou, China. Midfielder Salima Tete will captain the team, which blends youth and experience across all departments.
The goalkeeping duties will be shared by Bansari Solanki and Bichu Devi Kharibam. The defence will be anchored by senior players Nikki Pradhan and Udita, supported by youngsters Manisha Chauhan, Jyoti, Suman Devi Thoudam, and Ishika Chaudhary. In midfield, alongside captain Tete, India will rely on Neha, Lalremsiami, Sharmila Devi, Sunelita Toppo, and Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke to provide both stability and creativity.
The forward line features experienced names such as Navneet Kaur and Sangita Kumari, alongside promising players Mumtaz Khan, Deepika, Beauty Dungdung, and Rutaja Dadaso Pisal.
Head coach Harendra Singh expressed confidence in the squad. “We have aimed for the right balance between seasoned players and young talent. The group has been training with great intensity, and our focus will be on aggressive and disciplined hockey,” he said.
The tournament carries major importance as the winner will earn a direct spot in the 2026 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup. Singh stressed that the stakes are high, with every match testing the team’s fitness, composure, and tactics.
India have been placed in Pool B with Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. They begin their campaign against Thailand on September 5, followed by Japan on September 6, and conclude pool matches against Singapore on September 8.
