VP Poll: BRS Backs Alliance Ensuring Telangana Urea

Rama Rao blames Congress, BJP for urea crisis, pledges statewide protests

Hyderabad

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday tied the Vice-Presidential polls to the ongoing urea shortage in Telangana, saying his party will support the alliance that guarantees supply of 2 lakh tonnes of fertilizer to the state. Expressing concern over the hardships faced by Telangana farmers, he blamed the state government for the crisis and stressed that BRS will back any formation ensuring adequate urea for farmers.

Rama Rao clarified that BRS is an independent party, not aligned with either the NDA or the INDIA Bloc. We have no bosses in Delhi. The people of Telangana are our only bosses, he said. He added that neither alliance has approached BRS yet and that any decision will prioritize Telangana farmers’ interests. Criticizing both Congress and BJP, he claimed that despite having eight MPs each from Telangana, the state has gained nothing.

The BRS leader also highlighted Congress’s failure on social justice, pointing out that no BC leader was nominated for the Vice-Presidential election. He slammed the state government for creating an artificial scarcity of urea, accusing officials of diverting stocks to the black market while farmers queued for hours, sometimes overnight, for fertilizer. He demanded a White Paper on supplies, stock levels, and diversion, and called for a central investigation into the crisis.

Rama Rao warned that if the situation continues, BRS will launch statewide protests to protect farmers’ interests. Farmers should not lose hope. We will fight until this crisis is resolved and will not allow the Congress government to ruin Telangana’s farming progress, he declared.
