Gupta’s office seeks strict action, reassures commitment to public service

Delhi Police have registered an FIR for attempt to murder after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked at her camp office in Civil Lines, north Delhi, on Wednesday. The case was lodged under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Civil Lines police station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia confirmed the development and said the accused, identified as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, has been arrested. He is in police custody and is being interrogated to determine the motive.

Sources said the Special Cell of Delhi Police is also probing the case to check whether the attack was part of a bigger plan. Officials are examining possible security lapses that may have allowed the assault to take place.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ (public hearing) at Gupta’s camp office. Her office issued a statement condemning the attack, calling it a well-planned conspiracy intended to take the Chief Minister’s life.

The sudden assault left many attendees shocked, as such events are usually organised to allow citizens to share their grievances directly with the Chief Minister. Quick intervention by security staff prevented further damage, but the incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of elected representatives.

Gupta’s office has requested a detailed investigation and strict action against the accused. It also assured citizens that despite the attack, the Chief Minister remains fully committed to her public responsibilities.

Police officials said more information will come out as the probe continues. Meanwhile, political leaders and citizens have expressed worry over the incident, urging stronger security measures to ensure the protection of public figures.
