On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to step up safety measures in all zoos, bird sanctuaries, national parks, wetlands, and cow shelters across the state due to the potential threat of bird flu.

According to an official statement, the CM emphasised strict adherence to both central and state guidelines, with immediate sanitisation of all zoo premises. These measures include blow-torching, where necessary, and compulsory health checks for all birds and animals. He also directed that food for animals should be served only after proper inspection, while staff assignments inside enclosures should be based on risk levels to ensure maximum safety.

Adityanath stressed that zoo staff must be trained to identify and prevent the spread of avian influenza. They should also be provided with PPE kits and other protective equipment. Additionally, he instructed that poultry farms across Uttar Pradesh be closely monitored, with strict controls on the movement of poultry products to curb any possible spread.

The Chief Minister also tasked the Health Department with studying the potential effects of bird flu on humans and preparing a report outlining strategies to prevent human infections.

To strengthen preventive action, Adityanath ordered continuous coordination with the Central Zoo Authority, the National Centre for Disease Control, the Union Health Ministry, the Fisheries and Dairy Department, and the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in Bareilly. He stressed that all their recommendations should be implemented promptly.

These measures aim to protect both wildlife and public health while ensuring that any signs of bird flu are detected and addressed without delay.
