Rainwater entered the Savadatti Yallamma temple, the place of worship of millions of devotees, creating havoc. The temple was completely submerged in the floodwaters caused by the continuous rains. Devotees coming for the Shravan festival faced severe hardship due to the rain.
The floodwaters have spread all over the temple, filling it with dirt, mud, and silt. As a result, the temple premises are filled with mud. The temple staff is carrying out cleaning work.
Money in the hundi soaked in water: The money in the hundi has been completely soaked as flood water has entered the temple. The notes that the devotees had put in as offerings have become lumpy with water. Now the temple staff is drying the money like clothes in the sun and collecting it.
The Savadatti Yallamma temple was waterlogged due to the heavy rains that fell last Friday. Thousands of devotees who were coming to see the goddess on the occasion of Noolu Purnima were stranded. The oil well, ticket counter, and donation hopper here were all submerged in the floodwaters.
Now, as the water level has reduced, the staff is struggling to clean the temple. In particular, the money in the hundi, which was wet, has been spread out in the temple courtyard to dry in the sun. The staff is working hard to dry the notes and coins.
Renuka Yellamma Temple Development Authority Secretary Ashok Dudagunti said that due to heavy rains, water had entered the temple. Now we have taken up cleaning work. Water had also entered the donation box. Therefore, we are drying the wet notes. After cleaning the temple, devotees have been allowed to have darshan of the goddess, he said.
