Awareness must be created about protection for Senior citizens under law and prevent exploitation Chitradurga
Senior citizens should be respected by taking good care of them and providing them with the facilities they deserve. No one should neglect senior citizens, said Principal District and Sessions Judge and District Legal Services Authority Chairman Rona Vasudev.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Senior Citizens Legal Advice Center on Wednesday.
Cases related to marital and property disputes are increasing in recent days without the guidance of senior citizens at home. Our behavior can be corrected with the guidance of elders. He said that when such senior citizens are thrown out of the house, the younger ones do not get timely advice and end up fighting over small matters and come to court, adding that senior citizens at home are also revered like gods in a temple, he said.
Deputy Divisional Officer Mehboob Jilani Qureshi said that in order to protect the rights of senior citizens, 35 cases have been identified regarding senior citizens, out of which 19 cases have been disposed of, and in 6 cases, the property of senior citizens has been returned and registered.
President of the Bar Association Y Thippeswamy, District Disabled Welfare Officer J Vaishali also spoke.
Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority M Vijay, Tahsildar Govindaraj, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department KH Vijay Kumar and other senior citizens were present.
As per the government’s directive, pension adalats are being held every month in the respective hobli limits of each taluk to ensure that social security schemes are being adequately delivered to senior citizens and the disabled. He said that the grievances of senior citizens are being heard in the pension adalat and compensation is being provided, said Deputy Divisional Officer Mehboob Jilani Qureshi.
