Former vice-president of Chikkodi Taluk Panchayat, Raju Patil, was seriously injured after being attacked by two unidentified persons near the bus stand in Mugali village on Tuesday night.
According to police, the assailants threw chilli powder in Patil’s face, blinding him temporarily, before assaulting him with sharp weapons. In the attack, fingers on his left hand were severed. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Chikkodi for treatment.
Patil alleged that a school headmaster and his son, with whom he had longstanding disputes, could be behind the incident. Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled stated that Patil was alone at the time of the attack.
Chikkodi police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
