The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its probe into the widespread irregularities surrounding the Karnataka Public Service Commission veterinary officer recruitment examination by taking two key suspects into formal custody.
IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and an alleged middleman named Basavaraj Kannale were moved under federal investigative detention following four days of initial questioning. Both individuals had previously been lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison after local criminal investigation department authorities carried out initial arrests. Federal investigators stated that the formal custody was necessitated by a persistent lack of cooperation during the preliminary inquiry phases.
Law enforcement teams produced the accused before a special judicial magistrate on Friday evening, securing a remand order to facilitate intensive interrogation. Investigators are focusing heavily on uncovering financial trails, suspected hawala transactions, and illicit monetary exchanges linked to the examination irregularities. The financial probe aims to trace how bribes were funneled and distributed among high-ranking public figures and administrative facilitators.
Meanwhile, parallel search operations continue to uncover further evidence across the state. In a related development, criminal investigators executed search warrants at the residential premises of KPSC member Shanta Hosamani. During these raids, enforcement teams seized electronic devices, including two mobile phones and a tablet, which will undergo forensic examination to retrieve deleted messages, call logs, and digital communication records.
The recruitment scandal has triggered widespread public debate regarding institutional transparency and integrity within state employment boards. Government watchdogs and opposition leaders have continuously demanded stringent legal action against all perpetrators involved in compromising merit-based selection processes.
