Davanagere
The Davanagere-Harihar Urban Development Authority (DHUDA) has decided to develop a new 200-acre residential layout in Karur, Davanagere, mainly for poor and middle-class families who do not own housing sites.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by District In-charge Minister S.S. Mallikarjun. He directed officials to prepare and submit proposals to the government and obtain approval for the project at the earliest. The new layout is expected to provide housing sites to eligible families without plots.
The meeting also approved the auction of remaining sites in the J.H. Patel Layout. Minister Mallikarjun said the new project would focus on helping economically weaker and middle-class families secure residential sites.
On the ongoing dispute over water release, Mallikarjun criticised BJP MLA B.P. Harish for allegedly misleading farmers. He said issues related to irrigation should be discussed in the Irrigation Consultative Committee meetings and that farmers should be given factual information about water availability and release.
He also criticised the BJP protest and rejected allegations that he had spoken against farmers. Mallikarjun said farmers from both Left and Right Bank canals should discuss their problems with engineers and present the ground situation. He questioned why irrigation expert Narasimhappa and former minister S.A. Ravindranath remained silent during the meeting and urged the MLA to help resolve farmers’ concerns instead of directing them to approach the minister.
DUDA Chairman Dinesh K. Shetty, Deputy Commissioner Dr. G.M. Gangadharaswamy, SP H.T. Shekhar and DUDA Commissioner Renuka attended the meeting.
