Civic authorities are ramping up efforts to address pressing urban challenges across the eastern zones of the capital. Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, Additional Commissioner for Development at the Bengaluru East City Corporation, conducted an extensive field inspection tour to evaluate the current condition of local roads, footpaths, streetlights, stormwater drains, and waste management systems. During the rigorous inspection, the senior commissioner visited multiple neighborhoods and transit junctions to review ongoing infrastructure projects and identify critical civic bottlenecks needing urgent intervention.
Throughout the visit, the commissioner issued strict directives to supervising engineers and department heads to prioritize identified issues and execute immediate corrective measures. At Lowry Junction and surrounding areas, officials were instructed to fill deep potholes, repair damaged road surfaces, clear construction debris from footpaths, and ensure that field marshals actively maintain pedestrian safety. Similar instructions were issued for B. Narayanapura and Kamadhenu Nagar, where road restoration works following recent water supply pipeline installations have faced delays, causing significant inconvenience to daily commuters and local residents.
Addressing pedestrian safety and commercial encroachments along major thoroughfares remained a key focus of the inspection. On the Outer Ring Road and near Bagmane Technology Centre, authorities were directed to remove illegal structures and stalls blocking walkways, fix broken pavement slabs, and install new streetlights along unlit stretches. The commissioner also inspected areas beneath local flyovers, such as near KIMS Hospital, ordering immediate beautification efforts, drainage cleanups, and grating repairs to prevent stormwater overflow onto major motorways.
Public cleanliness and waste management issues received heavy scrutiny as the delegation toured neighborhoods from Vignana Nagar to Murugesh Palya. Officials were ordered to eliminate chronic garbage black spots, prevent illegal dumping in vacant lots, and reorganize parking arrangements for municipal garbage vehicles to keep school zones clean. Furthermore, coordination with other utilities like the electricity supply board and Metro Corporation was emphasized to resolve issues involving exposed electrical poles, low-hanging transformers, and stray cattle. The commissioner warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against any municipal officials found negligent in carrying out their public duties.
