The Bharatiya Janata Party’s high-profile ‘Ballari Chalo’ padayatra, organized to condemn the administrative failures of the ruling Congress government in Karnataka, entered its fourth day on Friday.
The day’s 26-kilometer leg began from Mahatma Gandhi Circle in Sindhanur, Raichur, and will cross into Karatagi in Koppal district under the supervision of the BJP State Minority Morcha.
Led by BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra, senior leaders including Govind Karjol, B. Sriramulu, V. Sunil Kumar, and Mahesh Tenginkai participated in the march. Commencing on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, the procession was inaugurated with traditional cow worship.
Thousands of party workers and supporters from across Sindhanur, Vijayanagar, Gadag, Kanakagiri, Haveri, Hubballi, and Dharwad joined the demonstration to protest against severe government shortfalls, notably highlighting delays in releasing welfare pensions, old-age assistance, and salaries for ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, and guest lecturers.
Meanwhile, in a statement released from Bengaluru, Vijayendra declared that his party had secured four major political successes in the past 25 days solely through its relentless pressure campaigns against the state government.
Outlining these milestones, Vijayendra noted that the first breakthrough was extracting the resignation of Minister B. Nagendra following continuous legislative protests. The second success, he claimed, was compelling Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his cabinet ministers to leave their air-conditioned offices and tour drought-stricken rural districts to assess agrarian distress.
Furthermore, Vijayendra pointed out that the BJP’s agitation forced the administration to withdraw the contentious Park Bill, which would have allowed construction in urban parks. Finally, he highlighted that the government was compelled to convene a special session of the legislature specifically to address drought and pressing state challenges, an outcome he attributed directly to persistent opposition demands.
Asserting that “nothing succeeds like success,” Vijayendra emphasized that these victories demonstrate the power of sustained public movements. He concluded that the growing momentum will encourage the BJP to further intensify its agitation across Karnataka against the Congress administration’s policies.
