Dr. Sudhakar noted below-normal rainfall, possible irregular showers, and urged officials to ensure drinking water preparedness and precautions
Chikkaballapura
District In-charge Minister and Higher Education Minister Dr. M.C. Sudhakar has urged people to take necessary precautions as the region faces intense heat and unusual weather conditions. He said the Meteorological Department has warned of rising temperatures and strong hot winds, and advised the public to strictly follow health department guidelines.
He was speaking after presiding over the quarterly KDP meeting held at Sir M. Visveswaraiah Hall of the Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday, where the progress of various government departments was reviewed.
Dr. Sudhakar said the state has received below-normal rainfall this year, though Chikkaballapura district may still receive irregular showers. He instructed officials to stay alert and take precautionary steps regardless of rainfall changes, especially regarding drinking water supply.
He said 313 borewells have been drilled under the mission plan and should be made functional soon by ensuring electricity connections so that water can be supplied to people without delay. He also informed that ₹1.5 crore has been released by the state government for emergency drinking water supply, and additional funds will be provided whenever required.
The Minister also raised concern about sewage water entering Amani Lake near Kandavara and Gopalakrishna areas of Chikkaballapura city. He said a full drainage system project worth ₹30 crore has been taken up to prevent pollution, and the tender process is currently underway.
He noted that drinking water shortage has already been reported in several villages—12 in February, 23 in March, and 31 at present. He warned that around 108 villages may face water problems in the coming days and directed officials to prepare accordingly. Temporary arrangements are being made with support from private pipeline owners.
Dr. Sudhakar emphasized that protecting public health during heatwave conditions is a priority and urged citizens to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and follow safety advice issued by authorities.
The meeting was attended by MLAs, district officials, police and forest department heads, urban development authorities, and senior administrative officers who reviewed ongoing development and welfare programmes in the district.
