Bevinala village raises malaria awareness campaign drive

Fever Safety Alert

Koppal

District administration and health department officials conducted a public awareness programme on World Malaria Awareness Day near Kenchamma Devi Temple in Bevinala village. The event aimed to educate people about malaria prevention and promote clean surroundings.

District Health Education Officer Shivananda VHP said that Malaria Day is observed every year on April 25 to spread awareness and support eradication of the disease. He said the 2026 slogan is Journey to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must.

Malaria is spread by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Common symptoms include headache, vomiting, chills, high fever and weakness. People were advised to go to nearby government hospitals for blood tests and treatment if malaria is suspected. Health officials urged villagers not to ignore fever and to contact ASHA workers or local health staff immediately.

Officials explained preventive steps such as cleaning water storage containers twice a week and keeping them dry. They also advised covering tanks tightly, using neem smoke in the evening, and avoiding stagnant water around houses. Breeding of mosquitoes happens in standing water, so cleanliness was stressed as essential for malaria control.

Panchayat Development Officer Geetha spoke about cleanliness, safe water use, waste segregation and proper disposal of garbage. She stressed the need to prevent child marriage and maintain a healthy environment in the village. She appealed to make Bevinala a disease free village through cooperation of all residents.

Health staff also spoke about summer precautions and awareness programmes on snake bite, rabies, tuberculosis, leprosy and non communicable diseases. Pamphlets on malaria prevention were distributed to villagers during the programme. The event was attended by former Gram Panchayat president Thippavva Shivappa Naik, malaria technical staff, health officers, ASHA workers and local residents.

Officials said that cooperation from the public is very important to eliminate malaria from Koppal district. They requested villagers to support health workers, follow safety measures, and report fever cases immediately. The administration aims to reduce mosquito breeding and improve hygiene standards. All departments will continue awareness activities to protect public health and achieve a malaria free region in the coming years with collective community effort always.
