Chitradurga plans meaningful buddha jayanti celebration

CHITRADURGA

Sub-Divisional Officer K. J. Kantaraj said Buddha Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, will be celebrated in a meaningful way by the district administration. He was speaking at a preparatory meeting held at the District Collector’s office hall.

He said the teachings of Gautama Buddha, who spread the message of peace and non-violence, remain relevant in all times and should inspire harmony in society.

As part of the programme on May 1, a cultural procession carrying tableaux depicting Buddha’s teachings will be taken out on main streets at 9 a.m. A stage programme will follow at 11 a.m. near the Buddha statue in front of the Onake Obavva District Stadium.

Officials said a special lecture on Buddha’s life and principles will be arranged to create awareness among youth. Due to the summer season, arrangements for drinking water, seating and basic facilities will be ensured for the public attending the event.

Authorities also decided to install banners at key locations, including bus stands, to spread awareness about the celebration.

Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department B.M. Gurunath urged public participation to make the district-level programme successful.

Officials also discussed repairing and repainting the Buddha statue in front of the stadium, where minor cracks were observed.

Leaders and officials requested participation from students and organisations in the cultural procession to make the event successful and promote the message of peace, unity and compassion in society.
