CM marked Basava Jayanti in Hunsur, praising Basavanna’s equality ideals, announcing cultural leader status, and promoting his philosophy beyond caste and religion.
HUNSUR
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the government is celebrating Basava Jayanti in Hunsur with devotion and respect for Basavanna, the social reformer who fought caste inequality. He spoke at the Basava Jayanti and Basavadwara inauguration event at Madahalli Math led by Basava Samiti president Handanahalli Somashekar and former MLA H.P. Manjunath.
He said Basavanna wanted a casteless and classless society and identified himself with the oppressed to promote equality and social justice. He added that equality fraternity and justice are also the foundation of the Constitution and Basavanna’s ideals reflect them. He said the cabinet had declared Basavanna a cultural leader and government orders were issued to display his photo in offices. He noted Basava Jayanti is now celebrated even abroad and the philosophy goes beyond caste and religion boundaries.
During the programme, MLA Harish Gowda raised issues including irrigation, sewage entering Lakshmana Theertha river, hospital development, and upgrading Hunsur infrastructure. Former MLA H.P. Manjunath praised the development work in the region and thanked the Chief Minister for progress in the area. Religious leaders and ministers including several swamijis and officials attended the programme. The event also saw participation from Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Math, Madahalli Math seer, Gavadagere Math seer, and state leaders. They emphasized unity and development goals for Hunsur region and called for continued focus on social harmony and progress in the district area.
