New Indira Canteen brings affordable meals to workers

Minister for School Education and Literacy and District In-charge Minister S. Madhu Bangarappa urged working class and economically weaker people to make good use of the Indira Canteen that provides affordable and nutritious food. He was speaking after inaugurating a newly constructed Indira Canteen near Gandhi Circle in Holehonnur town on Saturday.

The minister said that a total of 16 Indira Canteens have been sanctioned for Shivamogga district and this is the 12th canteen under the Holehonnur Town Panchayat limits. He explained that the canteen scheme is aimed at helping poor and working people by offering quality food at very low prices. Snacks are available for Rs.5 while lunch and dinner meals are served for Rs.10. He appealed to the public to visit the canteen, check the quality of the food and support the initiative.

Speaking about education, the minister said that around 57 lakh children in the state are receiving hot meals, eggs and milk in schools. He added that officials should also taste the meals during visits to ensure quality and proper implementation.

He also announced that Holehonnur Government High School will soon be upgraded into a Karnataka Public School where students will receive free education from LKG to Class 12 under one campus. Facilities like transport, computers, skill training and arts education will also be provided.

Shivamogga Rural MLA Sharada Pooryanayaka said the Indira Canteen scheme is very helpful for poor and working people and must be maintained with good food quality. Several officials and local leaders attended the program.

Minister Assures No Cooking Gas Shortage

District In-charge Minister Madhu Bangarappa assured that there is no serious shortage of cooking gas in the district. Speaking to reporters, he said a special meeting with officials has been convened to review cooking gas supply and drinking water availability amid the intense summer. He added that steps will be taken to address possible water issues in some areas. The minister also said government schools and Kannada medium institutions will not be closed and efforts are underway to resolve pending demands. Funds have been released for development works, and several projects are expected to progress in the coming months.
