The Swachhata Hi Seva-2026 campaign, aimed at promoting cleanliness and improved sanitation practices in rural areas, is being conducted across Kalaburagi district from September 17 to October 2 under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural).
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Sankanoor said the campaign seeks to make cleanliness a people’s movement by encouraging voluntary service and community participation.
Sankanoor appealed to people in rural areas to participate actively in the cleanliness drive. As part of the campaign, black spots, garbage-prone areas and locations witnessing heavy public movement will be cleaned and developed into cleaner and more attractive spaces. School students and youth will also be involved through activities carrying the message of “Clean Schools – Youth for Cleanliness.”
Several activities have been planned for Safai Mitras, Swachhagrahis and volunteers. These include health check-ups, distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) kits and safety gear, and awareness programmes on Central and State government welfare schemes. Safai Mitras will also be felicitated at the local level in recognition of their contribution to maintaining cleanliness.
The campaign will focus on solid waste management, waste segregation and door-to-door awareness programmes. Activities promoting composting, cleanliness-themed sports events, clean festivals and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” tree-planting initiative will also be organised. Special programmes will be held on World Tourism Day on September 27, while special Gram Sabhas will be conducted on October 2 to encourage greater public participation. “Waste to Wealth” and “Waste to Art” initiatives will promote awareness about recycling, the circular economy and environmental conservation.
