Actor Benedict Garrett has defended Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups after the Kannada film received heavy criticism from critics and audiences. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film hit theatres on August 26 and has reportedly earned about ₹300 crore worldwide.
Garrett shared pictures from his scenes on social media and asked viewers not to judge the movie only through reviews. He said people should decide for themselves whether criticism is genuine or paid, reminding them that they have their own minds.
He also explained why he connected with the film. Although he is not a major fan of action movies, Garrett said Toxic surprised him and affected him deeply. He described it as a dark fairy tale about trauma, power, religion, colonialism and society, rather than simply violence or spectacle.
He praised Yash’s performance and said he was proud to be part of the film. Garrett admitted it would not appeal to everyone, but admired Mohandas for creating different work. He encouraged viewers to watch it and form their view.
