The Department of Criminology and Forensic Science of Teresian College, Mysuru, organised an introductory programme titled “Beyond the Crime Scene – Exploring Career Opportunities in Criminology and Forensic Science” for students at its college premises in Mysuru on Saturday.
The main objective of the programme was to create awareness among students about the various academic and professional opportunities available in the fields of criminology and forensic science and to guide them in making appropriate career choices in the future.
The resource person for the programme was Pradeep Kumar N., faculty member of the Forensic Science Department at the Karnataka Police Academy (KPA), Mysuru, forensic science expert and researcher, who provided valuable guidance to the students on various career prospects in the field.
The programme provided students with information on various career avenues, including forensic laboratories, crime investigation, scientific analysis of evidence, police and law enforcement agencies, cyber and digital forensics, crime analysis, research and teaching.
Students were informed that criminology and forensic science are not limited to crime scene investigation but are multidisciplinary fields encompassing science, law, technology and investigative skills. It was also emphasised that scientific thinking, analytical abilities, keen observation, the capacity to make evidence-based decisions and a research-oriented approach are essential for building a successful career in these fields.
The programme served as a useful platform for students to gain clarity about higher education, specialised training and future employment opportunities. It also provided them with an opportunity to interact directly with an expert having extensive experience in the field.
Organised with the message “Explore, Learn, Grow and Build Your Future,” the programme encouraged students to identify their interests and abilities, explore emerging career opportunities and work towards building a successful future.
