Minister Jarkiholi defends ₹2,000 crore turnover

CH News, BENGALURU

Enforcement Directorate officials concluded a marathon 36-hour search operation across eighteen locations tied to Karnataka Minister Satish Jarkiholi, seizing 2 crore rupees in cash and various property documents.

The extensive raids, spanning across Bengaluru and Belagavi, immediately triggered intense political friction across the state. Responding publicly to the findings, Minister Jarkiholi defended his financial standing and business activities. He confirmed that the recovered cash belonged entirely to his family enterprise and explained that his commercial group maintains a massive annual turnover of 2000 crore rupees.

Addressing questions regarding foreign commercial interests, the minister acknowledged that an overseas corporate entity was registered in his children’s names in Africa. However, he clarified that the establishment currently exists strictly on paper with no active business operations. He noted that while he previously explored overseas mining and trading opportunities, his group ultimately made no actual investments abroad. Furthermore, he stated that all relevant corporate paperwork was previously submitted to tax authorities, adding that he remains fully prepared to share those records with federal investigators.

The federal agency’s actions drew fierce condemnation from senior political leadership within the ruling party. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar strongly defended his cabinet colleague, asserting that the minister operated entirely within legal boundaries.

The senior party leader alleged that federal agencies are being weaponized to specifically target the ruling party, noting that similar pressure tactics are anticipated against other regional figures. Questioning the selective nature of the enforcement actions, he asked why opposition leaders are never subjected to comparable scrutiny. Party representatives emphasized that political pressure will not deter their leadership.

Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to analyze the seized financial records, cash reserves, and asset documents gathered during the multi-day inspections to determine the next steps in the ongoing probe.
