The State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister, has approved two major irrigation and water conservation projects for district, said District in-charge and Home, Information and Biotechnology and e-Governance Minister Priyank Kharge.
The Cabinet has approved a Rs 56-crore lift irrigation project to pump water from the Bori River and fill 12 lakes in Aland taluk. The project had received administrative approval during 2023-24, and the Cabinet has now given its approval to proceed with its implementation. Under the project, 28.94 MCF of water will be supplied to the 12 lakes. A pumping system will be established to lift water from the Bori River, along with the construction of a pump house, electrical substation, pipeline and distribution network. The project is expected to improve water availability in the lakes of Aland taluk, promote efficient utilisation of available water resources and strengthen irrigation facilities for farmers.
The Cabinet has also approved another project worth Rs 49.20 crore for undertaking various minor irrigation and water conservation works across district. The works will include development of lakes, canals and other water bodies, construction of a series of check dams, deepening and widening of canals, and other measures aimed at improving water storage and groundwater recharge.
Minister Priyank Kharge said the two projects are aimed at strengthening irrigation infrastructure, ensuring better utilisation of available water resources and increasing the water storage capacity of lakes and canals in the district.
The government has accorded priority to the overall development of district. The Cabinet approval for these two major irrigation and water conservation projects is an important step towards the development of farmers and rural areas. The government is committed to increasing water availability and providing further impetus to agricultural activities, he said. The two projects, with a combined estimated cost of Rs 105.20 crore, are expected to strengthen irrigation and water conservation infrastructure across district.
