Karnataka is running 34 hostels to encourage sports and provide training opportunities to young athletes, Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara said.
Around 2,300 sportspersons are currently training in different disciplines across the state.
During his visit to the Shri Jayaprakash Narayan National Youth Training Centre at Vidyanagar, Chikkajala, Parameshwara inspected the stadium and hostel facilities. He said athletes were receiving training in athletics, football, volleyball and gymnastics at the centre, while other facilities across Karnataka offer training in different sports.
Parameshwara said the government was working through the Sports and Youth Empowerment Department to develop more athletes. The national Khelo India programme is also helping states receive infrastructure and funding.
He said Karnataka wants its young athletes to compete nationally and internationally and bring medals home. Sports, he added, teach discipline and help people handle both victory and defeat with confidence.
The minister said officials had been instructed to improve existing facilities, appoint quality coaches and organize more competitions. He also directed authorities to provide nutritious food and appoint nutritionists to monitor athletes’ physical and mental health. Additional steps would be taken to strengthen coaching and support staff.
Parameshwara said Karnataka has 23 synthetic athletics tracks, creating better opportunities for athletes. The government also plans to upgrade Kanteerava Stadium with international-standard infrastructure, with the possibility of hosting Commonwealth Games events in the future. Recalling his own athletic and football experiences, he said his sporting background had strengthened his passion for developing young talent. He wished all athletes success in their pursuit of national and international achievements.
Bharat Jodo Logo unveiled to promote youth unity
Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar unveiled the new logo for the ‘Bharat Jodo’ programme on Friday, marking an important step in its statewide implementation.
The programme aims to unite youth and encourage social harmony, responsible citizenship and participation in nation-building. The public submitted 255 logo designs after the government invited entries.
Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath reviewed the designs and shortlisted two for final consideration. Their key ideas were combined to create the official logo.
Officials said the new design represents unity, solidarity, youth participation and the collective strength of Karnataka’s people, reflecting the programme’s vision and purpose.
