AHMEDABAD
An Air India flight travelling from Dammam in Saudi Arabia to New Delhi made an emergency landing at Ahmedabad airport on Monday after a crew member found a tissue paper carrying a bomb threat. The aircraft had 32 passengers on board, all of whom were reported safe, police said.
The Delhi-bound flight was diverted after the crew member discovered the message. The pilots decided to land at Ahmedabad International Airport as a precautionary measure. The aircraft touched down at around 4.30 pm, following which security agencies began a detailed inspection.
Assistant Commissioner of Police V N Yadav said the threat was written on a tissue paper found by a crew member. The message contained the word “bomb”, prompting the crew to alert the pilots and take immediate safety measures.
After the aircraft landed, security personnel thoroughly checked the plane and searched for any suspicious objects or material. Officials said nothing suspicious was found during the inspection. The security checks were carried out before passengers were allowed to continue with their travel arrangements.
All 32 passengers were accommodated at Terminal 2 of Ahmedabad airport, according to police. No passenger or crew member was reported injured in the incident. Authorities maintained security around the aircraft while the investigation continued.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the person responsible for leaving the threatening message. Officials are examining the aircraft, passenger movements and other available information as part of the probe.
The incident led to a precautionary diversion but did not result in any reported injuries or discovery of an explosive device. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the false or unsubstantiated threat and will determine the next steps based on their findings.
