Nepal Foreign Minister Sishir Khanal has described the recent floods as one of the largest natural disasters experienced by the country, as authorities intensify rescue and relief operations across affected areas.
Khanal said the government was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to reach communities hit by the devastating floods. Rescue teams and security personnel have been mobilised to search for missing people, evacuate those stranded and provide emergency assistance to affected families.
The minister said the scale of destruction had created significant challenges for authorities, particularly in areas where roads, bridges and communication networks were damaged. The government is working to restore access to affected communities and ensure essential supplies reach people in need.
Khanal also highlighted the importance of coordination among government agencies, local authorities and humanitarian organisations during the emergency response. Officials are assessing damage and identifying areas requiring immediate assistance.
The flooding has caused deaths, displaced residents and damaged homes and infrastructure in several parts of Nepal. Heavy monsoon rainfall has increased the risk of further floods and landslides, prompting authorities to maintain vigilance.
The government has appealed to people in vulnerable areas to follow safety instructions and cooperate with rescue teams. Khanal said relief and recovery efforts would continue as authorities work to assess the full impact of the disaster.
The minister thanked emergency responders and others involved in rescue operations, while stressing that supporting affected communities remained the government’s immediate priority.
