Kids meet the gentle giants at Aranya Bhavan

It was a day of wide eyes, excited whispers and unforgettable memories for the little students of Sufficient Kids Academy, as they got their first-ever glimpse of live elephants at Aranya Bhavan in Mysuru on Thursday, thanks to the Karnataka Forest Department.
Dressed in bright yellow and blue shirts, with identity cards swinging around their necks, the children arrived at Aranya Bhavan with a sense of excitement and curiosity. For many of them, the majestic elephants they had seen only in books, photographs or videos suddenly came alive before their eyes.
The children were taken to the designated arena where the Dasara jumbos are being housed. Keeping safety as the top priority, their teachers carefully assembled them at a safe distance from the elephants and guided them throughout the visit.
The moment the elephants came into view, the children were spellbound.
Tiny faces lit up with excitement as the youngsters stood quietly, gazing at the enormous pachyderms. Some stared in wonder, while others eagerly pointed towards the jumbos and shared their excitement with their friends. The sheer size and majestic presence of the elephants appeared to leave the children fascinated.
The encounter was not entirely one-sided.
The elephants too seemed curious about their unexpected visitors. The colourful group of children caught the attention of the jumbos, who looked towards them for some time. The unusual sight of several brightly dressed little children standing together appeared to intrigue the gentle giants.
For the teachers accompanying the students, it was more than just an outing. It was an opportunity to give the children a memorable real-life experience and introduce them to the magnificence of wildlife from a safe and controlled distance.
The Karnataka Forest Department’s initiative offered the children a chance to experience the world of elephants beyond textbooks and screens. The visit also created an opportunity for the young minds to observe the animals closely and develop curiosity and affection towards wildlife.
The children spent some time watching the elephants before bidding goodbye to their enormous new friends. As they returned to Sufficient Kids Academy, their conversations were filled with excitement about the jumbos they had just seen.
For the little visitors, the short trip turned into a lasting memory—one where tiny humans and mighty elephants met, stared at each other and shared a delightful moment at Aranya Bhavan. The elephants may soon march towards the grand Mysuru Palace for their Dasara duties, but for these children, the jumbos have already marched straight into their childhood memories.
