Shiv Sena State President Siddalinga Swamiji on Wednesday criticised AIMIM leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s reported statement that the Allahabad High Court’s decision on wearing hijab with the prescribed school uniform was an attack on Islam.
Speaking to reporters, Siddalinga Swamiji said the Allahabad High Court was not the only court to have issued directions regarding school uniforms. He noted that the Karnataka High Court had also earlier passed an order on the issue.
He said students were required to follow the uniforms prescribed by educational institutions in accordance with government regulations and questioned the need for an elected representative to describe a court order as an attack on Islam.
Court orders must be respected. Calling such a decision an attack on Islam is unconstitutional and such statements should not be made, he said. He also made a controversial remark against those who, according to him, refused to abide by the court’s directions, saying they should go to Pakistan.
On the issue raised by Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy regarding cases against the RSS, Siddalinga Swamiji said Home Minister Priyank Kharge had stated that no FIR had been registered against the RSS. He alleged that ministers, including Priyank Kharge, had been speaking against the RSS for the past three years. Chalavadi Narayanaswamy did the right thing by raising the issue in the House. Those who alleged that the RSS was wrong and casteist should now explain why no FIR has been registered against the organisation, he said. Siddalinga Swamiji said the government’s response that there were no FIRs against the RSS showed that there was no criminal case against the organisation.
