A meeting of the District Awareness and Monitoring Committee was held at the District Collector’s office under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dr Kumar to review steps for preventing atrocities against Dalits and providing support to victims under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The committee discussed compensation measures and social security issues while focusing on creating equality and harmony among all communities. The district administration has directed taluk officials to stop discrimination and organize awareness programs so people understand the law and respect the rights of every citizen. Officials were warned that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the rules or exploiting Dalits.
Dr Kumar said 43 cases of violence were registered between January and June 2026, and FIRs should be filed immediately after incidents. He stressed that victims must receive quick justice and necessary relief without delay.
The collector also stated that denying temple entry to Dalits is illegal and inhumane. Awareness drives should be conducted especially in villages to explain anti-atrocity laws and promote social unity. Committee member Somashekhar Keregod said regular monitoring meetings with police officials would help resolve cases faster and maintain peace.
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for upcoming examinations. Heads of examination centers were asked to check facilities in advance and ensure proper seating, drinking water and toilet arrangements for students. Power officials were instructed to avoid interruptions during exams and provide uninterrupted supply. Officers on duty were told to work together and coordinate with different departments to complete responsibilities smoothly.
District Superintendent of Police Dr Shobharani, Deputy Divisional Officer Shivamurthy, Social Welfare Department officials and committee members attended the meeting. The administration reiterated its commitment to protect vulnerable communities, ensure fairness and create a safe environment for everyone. The officials emphasized that public cooperation is essential for building a society where equality, justice and dignity are valued. Through continuous awareness and timely action, the district aims to prevent discrimination and support victims while strengthening trust among communities across the region.
